1st Year Art Teacher

"Teachers who inspire know that teaching is like cultivating a garden, and those who would have nothing to do with thorns must never attempt to gather flowers".

I am a first year art teacher. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in December 2008. I was extremely lucky in finding a job immediately after graduation. I am a temporary teacher at a Elementary school in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Although I will only be here till the end of March, the experience thus far has been well worth it.

This blog will allow you to see the rewards and trials I go through in my first year of teaching. I would like to share these experiences in hopes of receiving advice and also giving future art educators an insight into what lies ahead. Please comment on anything and everything! Positive criticism is always appreciated!

This is my 6th week. I am teaching 3rd-6th grade. Each class is 50 minutes long. I see a total of 376 children throughout the week. Each class comes to art once a week. There is a dress code at this school, which I really can see the positive influence it has on the school body. My classroom is next to the music room and in the 4th grade hallway.

Very soon I will tell you about the past six week's lessons and trials...
